Linear Technology Corporation introduces the LTM4600HVMPV, a complete and sealed 10A switching DC/DC regulator system, a new micromodule (uModule) DC/DC regulator for rugged military and avionics applications The first device in the series. The LTM4600HVMPV is fully tested over the temperature range of -55°C to 125°C. The device is packaged in a 15mm x 15mm x 2.8mm military plastic LGA (land grid array) package. The compact LGA package has been the package of choice for military system designers designing high-power DC/DC solutions because of its lower thermal resistance compared to similarly sized BGA (ball grid array) packages. The LTM4600HVMPV is composed entirely of Linear Technology chips and undergoes rigorous in-house testing by Linear Technology to achieve component-level reliability and performance in demanding applications such as military and aerospace systems.
The LTM4600HVMPV is a switch-mode synchronous step-down DC/DC regulator with built-in inductor, supporting power components and compensation circuitry. The device operates from an input supply voltage range of 4.5V to 28V and regulates the output voltage from 0.6V to 5V. This DC/DC micro module regulator can deliver 10A continuous load current (14A peak current) and achieve up to 92% efficiency. DC/DC micro module regulators like the LTM4600HVMPV simplify power supply design and construction, requiring only bulk input and output capacitors and a resistor to set the output voltage.
The LTM4600HVMPV DC/DC micro module regulator weighs only 1.7 grams and is available in a surface mount package that can be handled and assembled like a standard integrated circuit. Additionally, its low profile design allows the device to be soldered to the backside of a printed circuit board, freeing up valuable board space for complex digital integrated circuits. The LTM4600HVMPV protects itself from output overvoltage and short-circuit conditions.
